With the takeover of the A400M military transport aircraft with the serial number MSN106 on December 22, 2020, Belgium became the eighth A400M user state. The other OCCAR program nations France, Turkey, Great Britain, Germany, Spain and Luxembourg have received a total of 93 A400Ms since 2013. So far the only “export” customer is Malaysia with four machines. This means that Airbus has delivered 98 of the 174 transport aircraft on order to date.
Belgium will receive the second machine at the beginning of 2021 and will operate it together with the only Luxembourg A400M in the binational 15th air transport squadron at the Melsbroek base. In the end, the squadron will be equipped with seven new Belgian and one Luxembourg transport aircraft.
With 53 machines ordered, Germany becomes the largest A400M user. On December 4th, 2020, the Air Force received its 36th A400M. The equipment should be complete by 2026.
