Artificial intelligence in the Bundeswehr – enabler or user of software defined defense?
Daniel Prenzel, Tobias Brennenstuhl, Gerhardt Helbig and Markus Rist
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly permeating all areas of daily life. Of course, it doesn't stop at the Bundeswehr. It opens up new possibilities that can be exploited by military actors. For the armed forces and therefore also for the Bundeswehr, it is important to establish and maintain superiority and competitiveness in this field.
“Software Defined Defense” (SSD) as a new central paradigm for the development of the armed forces of the future aims to use the enormous potential of software to increase the performance of the Bundeswehr across the board. AI, as a form of software, plays a special role in processing data. A limitation to future platforms and weapons is not enough, as introduced systems should also benefit from the new possibilities of the digital world.
