In the past, a number of European countries were able to develop and manufacture main battle tanks, e.g. B. Sweden with the Stridsvagn 103 (commonly known as the S-Panzer) and Switzerland with the Panzer 61 and Panzer 68. But over time, many countries lost the ability to build tanks and concentrated on sourcing a few models. Both Sweden and Switzerland opted for the German LEOPARD 2 from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), albeit in a modified form.
