Der Schweizer Bundesrat hat in seiner Sitzung vom 2. Dezember Urs Loher zum Direktor des Bundesamts für Rüstung armasuisse ernannt. Er wird das Amt am 1. August 2023 von Martin Sonderegger übernehmen, der zum 31. August sein Pensionierungsalter erreicht.

After initial activities in the civil economy, Loher came to the Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (VBS) for the first time in 2002. Through various positions, he advanced to head of the Command and Reconnaissance Systems competence area. In 2012 he moved to Rheinmetall Air Defense AG and later to Thales Suisse as CEO. He is also President of the Aeronautical, Security & Defense (ASD) industrial sector at the Swiss Mechanical, Electrical and Metal Industries Association (Swissmem). In addition to his professional career, he is Colonel i Gst in the army.
