Der italienische Rüstungskonzern Leonardo, der neben Airbus Defence and Space und Dassault Aviation zum Eurodrone-Konsortium gehört, hat Safran Electronics & Defence beauftragt, das luftgestützte elektro-optische (optronische) Systems Euroflir 610 als Sensor für das als Eurodrohne bezeichnete ferngesteuerte Flugsystem (Remotely Piloted Aerial System, RPAS) für mittlere Höhe und lange Flugdauer (Medium Altitude Long Endurance, MALE) zu liefern.
According to Safran, the Euroflir 610 is a 25-inch airborne optronics system derived from the Euroflir 410 architecture, which is essential for the ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) missions of the European MALE drone. The Euroflir 610 will offer unrivaled observation and target acquisition performance at any time of the day or night and in highly compromised weather conditions thanks to its multispectral scope, line-of-sight stabilization and precise target location. As a purely European development, the Euroflir 600 is free from US export restrictions (eg ITAR) and thus strengthens Europe's defense and industrial base and European sovereignty in this technology segment.
Die europäische Beschaffungsagentur OCCAR hat für die vier Programmstaaten Frankreich, Deutschland, Italien und Spanien mehr als 60 MALE RPAS-Maschinen bestellt. Für einen Teil der Flugzeuge liefert Safran 20 Euroflir 610-Systeme. Die Lieferung des ersten Systems soll rechtzeitig zum Beginn der Fertigung des ersten Prototyps der Eurodrohne 2024 erfolgen.
