In January, BwFuhrparkService, the Bundeswehr's mobility service provider, received the last three of a total of 40 Scania 650 S A8x6/4HA heavy-duty tractor units. As Scania announced, the trucks have been in use for the logistically important heavy-duty transport since the start of delivery in November 2020. The semitrailer tractors are listed at the BwFPS as "trailer tractors, commercially available, large loads" (SaZgM hü gr La).

Die Sattelzugmaschinen (SZM) werden von einem V8-Motor (Euro 6) mit 478 kW angetrieben. Sie dienen mit ihren Sattelaufliegern von DOLL mit 8 Achsen und 32 Rädern zum Transport von schwerem Gerät der Bundeswehr bis hin zum Leopard 2 A7 V, so Scania. Zudem sei der Transport von Containern und Stückgut möglich. Die 40 Scania Sattelzugmaschinen werden in den logistischen Verbänden von Heer und Streitkräftebasis genutzt.

A special feature of the SZM is the drive on three axles (1,3,4) and the steering of the first and second (non-driven) axle. This improves traction and maneuverability. The cabin offers space for the driver and front passenger on air-suspended seats.

Für die Aufnahme der Schwerlast kommt ein achtachsiger DOLL-panther Sattelauflieger S8E-0S2 zum Einsatz. Sieben gelenkte Achsen sorgen für einen kleinen Wendekreis. Bei maximaler Achslast von zwölf Tonnen pro Achse kann die knapp dreizehn Meter lange Ladefläche Lasten bis zur technischen Nutzlast von 89 Tonnen aufnehmen.

The BwFPS distributes the heavy-duty trains to departments in Germany, where some of them are on permanent loan to the troops for use.

The heavy-duty trains will be made available to the troops for an initial period of seven years. Then the demand should be completely covered with the heavy-duty transporter SLT 70/2 which is currently being introduced.
