The Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) has agreed with the Israeli company Rafael on the supplementary procurement of laser target illuminators (laser designator pods, LDP), as can be seen from a BAAINBw publication on the European procurement platform TED.
Accordingly, with the supplementary procurement, the stock of material that has already been imported and used by the Bundeswehr will be increased. Rafael delivers the 220 kg Litening reconnaissance containers directly to Nörvenich, the location of the Tactical Air Force Squadron 31 "Boelcke", which is equipped with the Eurofighter fighter aircraft.
Die Aufklärungsbehälter Litening sind in der Version LDP III ausgeführt und verfügen im drehbaren Optikkopf über Wärmebild- und Tageslichtsensoren sowie einen Laserbeleuchter. Der Beleuchter kann auf ein Ziel aufgeschaltet werden und ihm automatisch folgen. Er dient Bomben und Raketen mit Lasersuchkopf als Zielhilfe. Der LDP III ist nach Angabe von Rafael für 26 Kampfflugzeugtypen, darunter Eurofighter und Tornado, zertifiziert.
