When the Bundeswehr is sent on missions, one of the first problems is always finding accommodation in the country of deployment. In Afghanistan, the operation began in winter 2001 in makeshift facilities that had to be built especially for this purpose. During the deployment in the Congo in 2006, accommodation was an issue that also occupied the daily press at the time.
Accommodation in action is generally considered to be a core military capability. The requirement extends from setting up a field camp to setting up a permanent operational infrastructure, operation and dismantling after the end of use.

Twenty years ago the German Armed Forces procured field camp equipment that should now be replaced. Two systems were in competition: On the one hand, there is the "Bundeswehr Field Camp Module System", which is to be procured according to Customer Product Management (CPM), a procedure by which the Bundeswehr's needs for products and services are quickly determined and covered can be. On the other hand, there was the procedure called "G-CAP II SU".
