After the threat analysis has changed in such a way that national and alliance defense has come back into the focus of military planning, the requirements for the protection of military vehicles have also changed.

In order to identify the threat and order-based protection requirements for each vehicle, an application-related derivation rationale was developed. As a result, the conceptual need for protected vehicles for the Bundeswehr has increased significantly.

Protection is not just armor

In this context, protection is understood as a system of complementary measures and means with the aim of maintaining the ability to deploy and act on one's own strength. In this sense, measures and means are suitable which as far as possible prevent or at least reduce the effects of the opponent against their own forces. This includes, for example, protection against reconnaissance, combat, electronic warfare or cyber attacks. Protection in the area of ​​land mobility is provided not only by constructive ballistic measures (armor), but also by other factors such as B. armament, active protection systems, camouflage, the use of (partially) automated systems and tactical procedures.
