Interview with the inspector of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach
ES & T: Admiral Schönbach, it is the job of the Navy to secure the world's sea routes for free movement. Is the German Navy properly positioned for this?
Schönbach: The navy fits into the overall context of the tasks of the Bundeswehr and the security policy framework. This was in the past and will be determined in the future by participation in alliances of collective security.
Linked to this is, on the one hand, to set up and maintain the navy in such a way that the tasks are carried out in NATO in particular and, on the other hand, the task of national defense, which has come into focus, is again emphasized more strongly in our command organization. Our strategic goals are formulated with the cornerstones for a Bundeswehr of the future. It is now a matter of filling them with content.
