The Czech Armed Forces received the first 65 Toyota Hilux earlier this week in the presence of Defense Minister Lubomír Metnar and Chief of Staff of the Czech Armed Forces General Aleš Opata. According to a press release from the Czech military, the modern all-terrain vehicle will gradually replace the current UAZ and Land Rover vehicles and modernize the fleet in all branches of the armed forces.

The Czech Armed Forces have been using the UAZ 463 as an all-terrain vehicle for over 40 years. In the 1990s there were also Land Rover Defenders, which have also come to the end of their lives. The framework contract concluded in 2020 worth 42.2 million euros provides for the delivery of a total of 1,200 Hilux vehicles in the Double Cab pick-up version, which can accommodate up to five passengers and was only presented last year. The vehicle is powered by a 150 hp four-cylinder engine which allows a top speed of 175 km/h. The all-wheel drive Hilux also has a maximum payload of 1040 kg.

General Opata sees the delivery of the Toyota Hilux as an important element in the modernization of the armed forces, which, according to the press release, is to be continued without delay. For the Prague-based company GLOMEX Military Supplies, the framework agreement concluded last year is the second major success as a supplier of off-road vehicles in a short period of time. At the end of last year, the Polish subsidiary GLOMEX MS Polska began delivering a total of 600 modified Ford Ranger XLTs to the Polish armed forces.
