Rheinmetall and the Spanish company Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E) have presented two new modules for the unmanned robotic vehicle Mission Master SP. The presentations took place in San Juan del Viso for Spanish representatives, including the Army Chief of Staff, and international delegations, as well as in Viator, Almeria, for King Felipe VI, Rheinmetall wrote in a statement.

The Fire Support functional module manufactured by EM&E is equipped with the stabilized, remote-controlled weapon station Escribano Guardian 2.0. This is able to accommodate weapons with calibers of 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, 12.70 mm, 40mm grenade launchers and smoke bomb launchers.

The Surveillance module carries the Escribano OTEOS-L sensor package (observation and tracking electro-optical system – Land, OTEOS-L). OTEOS is a 2-axis stabilized platform, with an observation range of 360° azimuth and 60° elevation. It is equipped with an infrared camera, day vision sensors and laser range finder.

The presentation demonstrated the detection of a threat by the surveillance module and the successful transmission of the location to the fire support module. This then directed its weapon station towards the threat. The demonstration continued with live fire, using a Dillon Aero M134D Gatling machine gun in 7.62×51 caliber mounted in the Guardian 2.0 weapon station. This took place using the portable UGV/weapon station controller in human-in-the-loop mode. According to Rheinmetall, combat using the Mission Master systems is never carried out autonomously.

The presentation also demonstrated the different control modes of the Mission Master systems, including follow mode functions, autonomous navigation and a convoy mode.

The Mission Master SP (Silent Partner), produced by Rheinmetall Canada, is an Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV) of the Mission Master family equipped with an electric motor with a low noise signature (es&t and wwi reported). It can also be used for various use cases to support and protect dismounted forces.
