After a long wait, the Challenger 2 Lifetime Extension Project (C2 LEP) has now been signed into a contract. The British Army will receive 148 modernized Challenger 3s with a lifespan of at least 2035.
The British Ministry of Defense and RBSL (Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land, the joint venture between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems Land UK founded in 2019) have agreed to deliver 148 Challenger 3s between 2027 and 2030 in a EUR 930 million contract. For Rheinmetall, this results in a contract value of 770 million euros (excluding taxes).
