The British Army is equipping some of its Boxer vehicles, which are used as mechanized infantry vehicles, with a remote-controlled weapon station and a shot detection system. Rheinmetall BAE Systems Landsystems – along with WFEL one of the two central Boxer contractors – has commissioned Thales in a ten-year contract to supply the two systems for the approximately 500 Boxer and to integrate them into the vehicles for the equivalent of 208 million euros.

The Acusonic shot detection system used in the Ajax infantry fighting vehicle – also from Thales – uses sonar technology to determine the direction of enemy fire and alerts the crew. The measurement results can be used automatically for fire control.
