Modern armed forces must be able to cope with their operations in different environments. In the context of the current deployments of NATO forces in Afghanistan, Mali and the Horn of Africa, the need for operational capability day and night in different capability domains becomes clear. In desert areas, urban areas, for maritime missions, or also wooded areas, the ability to act and night combat capability of the NATO troops must be guaranteed. Due to the shift in the threat scenarios away from asymmetrical and back to regular conflicts, potential opponents can be well equipped technologically and have advanced electro-optics.

Cross-sectional night vision capability is not yet sufficiently available in the Bundeswehr, despite previous procurement projects. The lack of ability to act and fight at night has been a frequently criticized skill gap among various NATO troops for many years. The German and Belgian troops do not yet have the ability to forbearance at all times. Furthermore, not all of the systems that have been introduced meet the quality standards required by the troops. Older and still in use systems show a lack of spatial vision and inadequate ergonomics.

Other NATO partners are also currently facing the same challenges. The Belgian armed forces currently have systems, some of which have been in use for many years.

For infantry operations in urban areas, the XACT nv33 is the preferred night vision goggles of the German forces. With additional sensors and functions based on the XACT nv33, the XACT nv3X will be tailored to the needs of modern armed forces. Essential for the German and Belgian forces is superior reactivity, intelligence gathering and reconnaissance through modern night vision technology. The night vision system XACT nv3X expands the pure night vision with capabilities such as reconnaissance, identification and three-dimensional effect. These skills are indispensable not only for dismounted use, but also for the safe control of land, water and air vehicles. The binocular residual light intensifier glasses XACT nv3X can set the standard for modern night vision technology in the armed forces. The XACT nv3X was continuously adapted to the new requirements of the NATO partners. The system can be mounted on all common combat helmets or used hand-held. A central control unit enables intuitive operation without any problems, even when wearing gloves. The XACT nv3X can be used binocularly or monocularly thanks to the independently movable viewing elements. Deactivating the tubes when they are folded down prevents the user's face from being illuminated.

The light and compact system is suitable for parachute jumps and driving vehicles. With a possible diving depth of 25 m, the night vision goggles can also be used for maritime missions. The use of the latest image intensifier tubes enables a very compact design with bright and high-contrast imaging. The low signature significantly reduces the risk of injury to the neck and head of the user. Its metal housing makes the XACT nv3X particularly robust and resistant to environmental influences and thermal fluctuations. With a weight of less than 500 grams, the system can be worn painlessly for a long time. An infinitely adjustable IR illuminator integrated into the housing maintains the ability of the user to act even in complete darkness. E.g. Narrow spaces can be illuminated with the IR illuminator. The brightness of the picture can also be set individually by means of stepless regulation.

The partner system of XACT nv3X, the XACT nv33, has been setting the standard for modern night vision in the Bundeswehr, the Federal Police, the SEK and the Luxembourg Army for several years. The positive feedback from the troops has already resulted in several successful acquisitions of the XACT nv33. The proven high performance and user-friendliness with the best ergonomics are the basis of the XACT nv3X.

We offer the night vision system together with our Belgian partner OIP Sensor Systems, a renowned company with more than 50 years of experience in the field of military electro-optics.

The consortium guarantees the best possible support for German customers in Germany and the Belgian armed forces in Belgium. Production, training, maintenance and repair of the devices take place in the respective national language together with a partner on site.

With the XACT nv3X, Elbit Systems Germany offers a modular and pioneering night vision system for cross-sectional use including the coverage of future requirements.

The XACT night vision systems for the German armed forces are manufactured in Ulm and are created together with our Belgian sister company.
