The Multinational Command for Operative Leadership in Ulm has been planned as a military strategic headquarters for six months since July 1, in order to be available as a rapid EU intervention force if the EU Battlegroup is deployed.

With the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), Germany, as a so-called framework nation, has again assumed responsibility for one of the battle groups of the European Union (EU Battlegroup, EUBG) in the second half of 2020. As other European nations, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland, the Netherlands, Latvia, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland will participate in the EU Battlegroup in the second half of 2020.
