Ten years after the start of development has begun in Australia, the introduction of protected 4 × 4 minivan Hawkei in the troupe. After an extensive test phase Thales Australia handed over the first vehicles from the start of production of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment.

The Hawkei is one of the first vehicles that have been designed with regard to comprehensive support for current and future C4I systems. Powerful, GVA-compliant vehicle electronic architecture, ample space and electrical power on board are among the most relevant features.

The vehicle in the ten-tonne class - three tons of payload - is powered by a 200 kW turbo diesel M16 Steyr an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and can have a maximum speed of 130 km / h reached. The integrated protection of the cab designed as a V-shaped monocoque is above level 1 to STANAG 4569 and can be increased by add-on protective elements of Plasan. For the intended five variants (guide, Connection, special forces, border guards and cargo) to be built two- and four-door versions, in which three or five soldiers can be transported. For arming either a ring mount or remote control weapon station is provided. The Hawkei can be transported as an external load with helicopters CH-47.

2015, the Australian Government as part of the project land 121 Phase 4 had completed the 1.2 billion euro supply contract for 1100 Hawkei and 1,058 trailers with Thales Australia.

The project land 121 and the phase 3A, in which Daimler AG 2146 G-Class has provided different versions and the phase 3B, with 2,707 heavy and medium trucks from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) partly with protected cabs. Include More more than 1,000 logistics truck delivers RMMV in phase 5B of the project.
