March 12, 2020 in Berlin on the occasion of the parliamentary morning event of the German Maritime Academy of the German Navy Federal, the Federal Minister for Defense, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, presented on "The German Navy in a multipolar world." The event was held under the auspices of the Chairman of the Defense Committee Wolfgang Hellmich, MP.

The minister wants to give more weight to the security policy, strengthen the position and future of the Navy in the overall structure of the Bundeswehr. The Navy stands the test especially in international crisis management (Aegean, UNIFIL, "Atalanta", the Mediterranean, Standing Naval Forces) and have the balance between the international crisis management and national and alliance defense yet well mastered.

Three maritime strategic areas are increasingly determining the safety-political events in Europe: the Baltic Sea as a sea route for supplies and troop reinforcements to the Baltic NATO, the North Atlantic with its sea routes from the US to Europe and the protection of submarine cables as well as the maritime presence in the Black Sea , In all these areas, the Navy is required.

It also applies, for example, to protect the freedom of sea routes that are important for our export nation as lifelines of strategic importance, such as the Strait of Malacca Strait Hormu or worldwide. So soon the frigate "Hamburg" publishing in the Indian Ocean, to show there presence. Against this background, watching the Navy have especially material the greatest need: They need new mine countermeasures units, submarines, helicopters, frigates, tankers, etc.

The defense budget had increased. Thus could be achieved a reliable medium-term financial line to fill gaps material. Finally, the troops must receive the material they need for their operations. Security depends also on the material. Therefore, the material supplied by the industry would no longer be accepted when it should not comply with the requirements of the troops. Ultimately, the Navy again own skills in materials management / repair should recover by the Navy arsenals.
