The Universal Motion Simulator (UMS) in Victoria/Australia, which belongs to Deaking University, was contracted to develop and supply driving simulators for the training of the military drivers of the soon to be incoming 8x8 boxers. The company is supplying six simulators for around 20 million euros, which will initially be used for training on the Boxer.
The reconfigurable driving simulator from UMS is a highly dynamic motion platform consisting of a robot arm with six degrees of freedom, exchangeable, simulated vehicle cabins, haptically activated control units and immersive simulation environments with detailed vehicle dynamics and terrain modelling.
The simulators will also be used for driving training for crews of the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank and the future infantry combat vehicle.
The seven-year contract provides for delivery of the first simulator in 2022.
