The Italian Ministry of Defense has established with the 1985 Freccia Consortium Iveco - the supply of additional 30 Freccia 8 × 8 Radschützenpanzer agreed Oto Melara (CIO). Five of the vehicles are configured as infantry combat vehicles, 25 for the anti-tank. The vehicles are used for the equipment of the second central brigade of the Italian Army, for 381 Freccia in its entirety.

The vehicle family Freccia in the 30-ton class has a highly protected trough and is driven by a powerful Iveco diesel engine via a traditional H-drive. Three steering axles and tires having runflat inserts provide in connection with hydropneumatic suspension for high maneuverability and off-road. As armament a HITFIST tower with 25 mm cannon is integrated. Fire control systems and command and communication systems by Leonardo basis for leadership and effectiveness.

In the 50:50 Consortium Iveco Defense Vehicles is a company of CNH Industrial, for engines, transmissions and all automotive components, the tub and the final integration of armored wheeled vehicles responsible. Leonardo, successors of OTO Melara, controls weapon systems, sight and fire control systems at and for tracked vehicles the tub and accept responsibility for the final integration. Both companies have expertise in the field of protection against direct attack, mines and IEDs.
