On 28 November 2019 the Dutch Ministry of Defense with Iveco Defense Vehicles signed a contract for the delivery of a first batch of 918 Middle tactical vehicles (Medium Tactical Vehicle, MTV) in the period from 2022 to 2026. The vehicles are to be delivered in five variants: two with hardware or soft top for the fight, a logistical variant (pickup), one for medical evacuation and one for the military police. The vehicles are intended for use in all branches of the armed forces.

The multi-purpose vehicle in the 12 ton class (working name "12kN") is currently being developed from scratch as an Iveco spokeswoman has provided upon request. In the product range of Iveco it closes the gap between the 8-ton 4 × 4 Light Modular Vehicle (LMV) and the 18-ton 4 × 4 Medium Protected Vehicle (MPV), but no further development of the two vehicles.

Features of the new 12kN vehicle is the consistent modularisation, which is the basis for the integration of the different systems for the five variants. High reliability, ease of maintenance and low life cycle costs are key requirements in the development of MTV.

Further details on the MTV Iveco will announce in the coming months. Then perhaps the first photos can be expected. Until then, only the drawing published gives a first impression of the new vehicle.

The 12kN vehicle is one of the projects of the Dutch project DVOW (Defensiebrede vervanging Operationele Wielvoertuigen) be replaced with the armed forces far outdated wheeled vehicles. In the other part of the project for the procurement of 50kN-, 100kN- and 150kN-trucks, Scania has delivered in late 2018, the first of more than 2,000 trucks.
