The FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG), a company that specializes in the manufacture and repair of military tracked and wheeled vehicles, has received from BAAINBw the contract to modernize fleet one of the Bundeswehr, the weasel.
The contract between the BAAINBw and FFG was signed in Koblenz on Tuesday, 19 November of 2019. This will give a total of 181 Wiesel 1 vehicles a service life extension (NDV), which will enable use of the vehicles over the year 2030.
The NDV measures aimed at improving the chassis, improved protection against mines and ballistic threats as well as the installation of modern means of communication and a new weapon system. Before the contract was signed, the FFG and the BAAINBw have coordinated closely with each other and negotiate.
"We are proud of this result - this order is for us an important project and at the same time a confirmation of the good work of the FFG during the development of the NDV-measures," said Helge Carstensen, director of the division of Defense Engineering Programs at the FFG. "We are strengthening our position as a reliable supplier for the German Army and will provide one more time our deadlines and budgets to the test.". On behalf of the Bundeswehr FFG had developed in the years 2018 and 2019, the NDV measures and verified.
