A goggle based on the THEON NYX was recently selected as the new binocular night vision goggle as part of the US Marine Corps (USMC) Squad Binocular Night Vision Goggle (SBNVG) program. THEON SENSORS has developed the new night vision goggles, in cooperation with HARRIS Night Vision USA (recently acquired by Elbit Systems of America / ESA) offered.

According to US press releases, a total of six companies have submitted offers for the SBNVG. Only after extensive field tests was the HARRIS F5032, based on the THEON NYX,which are also being introduced in a similar configuration as driver goggles and night vision goggles for the special forces in the Bundeswehr, selected as the new night vision goggles.

The partners (THEON SENSORS and ESA) were awarded a framework contract worth up to $249 million. The expected order quantity is more than 14,000 pairs of glasses within the next five years. According to the plan, deliveries are scheduled to begin in spring 2020 and end in September 2024. TheContract awarded by the US Department of Defensewas sent to HARRIS in September.

In a press conference held in Athens on October 10th, THEON SENSORS announced further details about the planned order processing in the presence of the Greek Minister for Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis and the American Ambassador to Greece Mr. Geoffrey R. Pyatt.

THEON SENSORS will supply its American partner company with the NYX binocular night vision goggles as a partially assembled set. Final assembly and delivery to the USMC will then be carried out by ESA and its Competence Center for Night Vision in Roanoke, USA. Theon also supplies most of the equipment set's accessories. The set also includes an E-COTI Enhanced Clip-on thermal imaging device from SAFRAN Optics 1.

During the press conference, Christian Hadjiminas, CEO of THEON SENSORS commented: “While we have worked hard to become the leading European night vision company, our dream of establishing ourselves in the extremely demanding US market has now become a reality. After four years of sustained and intensive efforts, we have won this major contract from the American Department of Defense with our US partner company. “This is certainly the biggest export success of a Greek defense company to the USA.”
