The Portuguese Armed Forces have selected a variant of the Glock 17 Gen 5 as their new standard service pistol.

The future service pistol of the Portuguese army comes in a sand-brown tone and has the Glock Marksman barrel for better precision as well as the glow-in-the-dark Glock sights with phosphor inlays. It also features the G5 trigger system, the slide release lever that can be operated from both sides and the magazine release button that can be converted to the other side of the weapon. Handling grooves on the front and rear of the grip allow for easier weapon manipulation and loading operations.

In a tender process launched by the NATO procurement authority NSPA (Nato Support and Procurement Agency) at the beginning of 2019, the Glock was able to prevail against several competitors. The selection decision was made at the end of July 2019. There is currently no official information on the number and order value.
