The Portuguese armed forces have chosen a variant of the Glock 17 Gen 5 as a new standard service pistol.
The future service pistol of the Portuguese Army is held in a sandy brown tone and has the Glock Marksman barrel for better precision and the noctilucent Glock sight with phosphorus deposits. Likewise, it has the G5-extraction system, the slide catch lever operable from both sides and convertible to the other side of the weapon magazine release button. Handling grooved front and rear on the handle allow simpler weapons manipulation and loading operations.
In an on NATO procurement agency NSPA (NATO Support and Procurement Agency) at the beginning of 2019 started tendering procedures, the Glock was able to beat several competitors. The selection decision was the end of July 2019. For the number and value of the contract, there are no official figures.
