Piranha 5 with Elbit tower qualified for Romania

In dynamic shooting tests, GDELS checked the performance of the Piranha 5 overall system with the Elbit UTR30 Mk 2 turret and exceeded the requirements of the armed forces in the presence of representatives of the Romanian procurement authority. The qualification at the Camp Arena shooting range in Norway is an important milestone in the Romanian program for equipping the troops with highly protected combat vehicles.

In 2018, GDELS signed a contract with the Romanian Armed Forces for the delivery of 227 Piranha 5 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles in six different versions. The vehicles will be produced in Romania as part of a strategic cooperation and technology transfer between GDELS - Mowag and the Romanian company Uzina Mecanică București (UMB). The preparatory work in Romania, including the training of the employees, has been completed.

Nach der Auslieferung der ersten fünf Piranhas im dritten Quartal 2018 stockte die Auslieferung der insgesamt 36 von GDELS / Kreuzlingen zu liefernden Fahrzeuge. Dem Vernehmen nach konnte die Qualifizierung wegen fehlender Elbit-Türme nicht erfolgen. Dies scheint jetzt ausgeräumt.
