The extensive acquisition programs for the renewal of equipment for the armed forces around the world are preferred to imported and therefore mature technology. The ever-increasing tangle of regulations and rules must be broken in order to make the necessary material available quickly. These are two findings from the IQPC organized International Armored Vehicles Conference 2019 at the end of January found in London around 600 experts to exchange information together.

Speakers from the armed forces presented their organizations and doctrines, findings from missions and modernization and procurement programs. The industry presented solutions and proposals in lectures and an accompanying exhibition. The exhibition was also a focal point for discussions that resulted from the over 70 different lecture topics.

The actual conference a Special Focus for maintenance, modernization and operation was preceded. In two parallel sessions discussed military leaders of many armed forces around the world aspects of the operation of their vehicle fleets and the industry had an opportunity to present solutions for selected tasks.

The main conference was moderated by General Sir Adrian Bradshaw. High-ranking commanders from NATO presented demands on modern equipment for ground forces. The decisive factor for command posts higher levels reducing the logistics footprint and the signature. Invisibility is the major goal, even to achieve by sacrificing extensive technology. The troops had to be put in a position, their weapons to bring anywhere effective for use at any time. The refocusing on the intense battle requires quick equipment of troops with adequate equipment in short supply.

Armored transport vehicle GTK Boxer

A special focus was awarded the Armored transport vehicle GTK Boxer for OCCAR, the NSPA, users nations Australia and Lithuania and the manufacturer ARTEC gave an overview of the procurement program and use. OCCAR (not for Australia) is purchasing the vehicles on behalf of users Nations in ARTEC, the joint venture between Rheinmetall and Kraus-Maffei Wegmann + Nexter Defense. Today 716 GTK Boxers are ordered in 14 versions. Germany has ordered a second batch of 131 group transport vehicles Boxer A2 and Lithuania as a new client 89 infantry and two driving school vehicles. These days, the 500th Boxer has left the assembly line.

They also run sales negotiations for 48 boxers for Slovenia and more than 500 vehicles for the UK. In Germany there is further need for boxers as a carrier for a heavy weapon for the infantry deployment and air defense with a number of items on the order of 90. The Netherlands has expressed requirements of five craft and additional training facilities.

This results in a total of a foreseeable production volume of well over 1,500 vehicles, which makes the Boxer as one of the most successful 8 × 8 wheeled vehicle programs. NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) expects to 2,000 vehicles for which it can assist in the operation.

the next generation of US Army combat vehicles

The US Army renewed in the years to its fleet of combat vehicles. To accelerate the development and procurement projects, the US Army has last fall founded the Army Futures Command (AFC), coordinate where eight Cross Functional Team (CFT) as a team of teams, the work of the project team. One is the Next Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV) CFT, which closes for the Army reduced or the gap in the cross-domain skills. The aim is to introduce fast combat vehicles that exceed the performance of imported vehicles with lower vehicle weight and reduced logistical "footprint". Here, a long-term superiority to be achieved for operations in's future combat environment with increasing threat.

active protection

To protect against rocket-powered hollow charge projectiles Active protection systems are the drug of choice. With Rafael and Rheinmetall Active Protection (RAP) two renowned manufacturer of active protection systems (Active Protection System, APS) were represented at the IAV. Rafael put the already introduced in the troupe - and proven in combat - Trophy before, which is currently being integrated into US Abrams battle tank. German Leopard 2 battle tank will soon be equipped with Trophy. 2022 will be usable for subsequent use in VJTF the first. RAP will integrate its ADS later this year on the Stryker the US Army and perform tests under conditions of use in the US. For users, the reliability of the APS is paramount: The system must surely trigger when it detects a threat, but only then. This places high demands on the software. Rafael reported up to two major software updates a year.

Further development
