The US Navy wants to procure 20 new frigates and has already initiated the tender for design proposals for the new FFG(X) frigates, in which the following shipbuilding companies are participating: Lockheed Martin with Austal USA are presenting a new version of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS ), Huntington Ingalls is participating with a variant of the US Coast Guard's National Security Cutter, Fincantieri/Italy is participating with the FREMM frigate and General Dynamics with Navantia/Spain are presenting the design of the F-100 frigate. The design tender runs until July 2019 and the construction contract is expected to be concluded with the selected provider in 2020. The graphic shows Lockheed Martin's LCS design.
